The New Brunswick Community Challenge
Process
1. After initial contact is made, the New Brunswick Climate Change Hub participates in a meeting with local government, business, and community groups, to discuss actions on climate change. An action plan (including recommendations to council) is drafted.
2. The Community Leader formalizes the ‘commitment to action’. The Community Leader and community-challenge are registered on our website under ‘community profiles’.
3. The New Brunswick Climate Change Hub provides support to host a community-luncheon to engage business community, local NGOs, and members of the public. The luncheon has the dual purpose of celebrating the ‘commitment to action’, and for obtaining individual commitments from participants toward simple actions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
4. The New Brunswick Climate Change Hub continues to facilitate the community leaders in developing programs / policies / resources necessary for achieving greenhouse gas emissions reductions from municipal operations, public services, and / or corporate and individual citizens (ex. community walk-to-work contest).
5. The New Brunswick Climate Change Hub monitors and measures all emissions reductions (aggregate level data) from community leaders.
6. The New Brunswick Climate Change Hub facilitates the promotion of local programs / activities / services, as part of its ongoing marketing and outreach efforts.
