Who We Are
The New Brunswick Climate Change Hub addresses the growing concerns over climate change, air pollution, and human health. The Hub facilitates the exchange of ideas, information and resources among government, private sector, and community-based organizations engaged in public education and outreach. By raising awareness of the impacts of climate change and positive actions that can be taken, we hope to motivate the public to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their communities and daily lives.
The New Brunswick Climate Change Hub is hosted by the New Brunswick Lung Association and shares its office space at the Victoria Health Centre in Fredericton, New Brunswick. In addition, the Hub supports an Advisory Committee, website, newsletter, on-line municipal forum and clearinghouse services. Our efforts include building capacity of municipal governments and community groups to address climate change.
History
The New Brunswick Climate Change Hub was established in 2001 as a multi-stakeholder group that aims to support public education and outreach on climate change. The Hub acts as a resource to communities, shares information and best management practices with leaders in industry and government, facilitates a stakeholder advisory committee, augments capacity of non-profit member groups, and conducts various outreach programs to obtain commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The Hub is premised on the National Public Education and Outreach strategy to build awareness of climate change impacts, develop support for policy to mitigate those impacts, and to motivate action by individual and corporate citizens to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It has been part of a National network of Hubs touching all three coasts – reaching diverse audiences and promoting action at local, provincial, and regional levels.
The New Brunswick Climate Change Hub continues to have a net positive impact on New Brunswickers’ health and environment, facilitating progress to greenhouse gas reduction targets, and engaging three levels of government, industry, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academia, and First Nations.
