The New Brunswick Climate Change Hub and Cape Jourimain Nature Centre presents Our Climate – Our Change on June 4 – 5 (05/26/05)
FREDERICTON – The public is invited to take part in Our Climate – Our Change, a weekend of informative, interactive and fun-filled activities on Climate Change being held at the Cape Jourimain Nature Centre on June 4 – 5.
Located at the New Brunswick end of the Confederation Bridge, the Centre is an environmental education and ecotourism facility that offers programs for a variety of audiences about natural history, human history, green technologies and energy efficiency.
“The Centre has recently opened its doors for the season and Our Climate – Our Change will mark our first major event of the season,” said Ramsey Hart, Manager of Outreach and Communication with the Cape Jourimain Nature Centre. “We hope the public will take the opportunity to come out and learn about the environment, climate change, and ways to conserve energy while having fun.”
The Falls Brook Centre’s Climate Change Bus, a traveling exhibit on climate change and energy efficiency which has its own onboard wind turbine and solar panels will be at the Centre for the weekend. Interactive exhibits from Science East, as well as various environmental presentations, film screenings, and a mini-trade show on energy efficiency will be offered. Building Bridges Youth Ambassadors will also be on site to assist the general public.
The event is presented in partnership by the New Brunswick Climate Change Hub and Cape Jourimain Nature Centre to celebrate World Environment Day on June 5. The event also coincides with Canadian Environment Week and Clean Air Day being marked on June 8.
The event will also encourage Canadians to take the Government of Canada’s One-Tonne Challenge. To date, over 2,000 New Brunswickers have officially pledged to take the One-Tonne Challenge.
“By involving a wide range of activities, we wanted to make this an event that is both educational and fun for the entire family,” said Eddie Oldfield, Director of the New Brunswick Climate Change Hub. “We’re also challenging Canadians to take the One-Tonne Challenge and hopefully this event will raise awareness of climate change and encourage New Brunswickers to take action.”
In addition to the special activities being planned for June 4 and 5 the Centre offers visitors a wide range of options including: a multi-storey observation tower; bilingual exhibits on local heritage, natural history and green technologies; Boutique Salicornia exhibiting unique maritime crafts; and the Iceboat Landing Restaurant, serving food made from local and organic produce.
