The New Brunswick Climate Change Hub was established in April 2001 after a series of multi-stakeholder consultations determined the New Brunswick Lung Association would be a suitable host for the Hub.

The New Brunswick Climate Change Hub encourages dialogue and partnerships between members by acting as a networking mechanism for groups to exchange, coordinate, and collaborate on climate change outreach activities. Funded by the Provincial and Federal government, the primary goal of the New Brunswick Climate Change Hub is to improve the capacity of New Brunswick organizations to address climate change issues.

The New Brunswick Climate Change Hub is part of a national framework of Hubs established to facilitate the delivery of public education and outreach (PEO) initiatives that are based on national and international scientific information but which are tailored to New Brunswick needs. The NB Climate Change Hub builds capacity in the Province of New Brunswick for climate change PEO and mitigation efforts, especially in response to Canada’s Climate Change Plan of the One-Tonne Challenge. The Hub is premised on the National PEO strategy to build awareness of climate change impacts, develop support for policy to mitigate those impacts, and to motivate action by individual and corporate citizens to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The objectives of the NB Climate Change Hub are:

  • Build upon a provincial network of organizations involved with addressing climate change and/or delivering climate change public education and outreach (PEO) activities ;
  • Support groups who will deliver community-based programs
  • Build Capacity of Hub members to address climate change, build partnerships, engage citizens, change behaviours, utilize media, influence policy, and foster awareness;
  • Operate as a clearinghouse facilitating access to information and resources for Hub members, educators / youth, media, funding agencies, and general public, and;
  • Conduct outreach programs in transportation, energy efficiency, energy conservation, waste reduction etc, at the community level.
